Overheard a customer argue that we should just replace boards, not fix them
Last Tuesday a guy in our shop in Cleveland was dropping off a TV and said anyone still doing component level repair is wasting time and money, that swapping the whole main board for $85 is smarter than 2 hours of tracing caps. I get the logic when parts are cheap, but on older gear or stuff with proprietary firmware, a $12 fix beats a board that might have the same hidden fault. Are we just delaying the inevitable with board swaps, or is soldering still the real skill we should be charging for? Curious where everyone lands on this.

Soldering pays off when that $85 board has the same burnt trace hiding underneath, trust me.
