Question about the 100th board I fixed with the same capacitor issue

I just fixed my 100th TV power board that had a blown 470uF 25V capacitor in the same spot (the secondary filter on the 12V rail, for anyone keeping score). It's wild how many different brands and models fail in the exact same way. I started keeping a log six months ago, and hitting that number really showed me this isn't just bad luck, it's a design flaw. Has anyone else seen a specific part fail this often across different devices?

My 2007 Samsung monitor had that exact same cap blow twice.

Check your log for the capacitor brand. I bet most of them are from the same cheap manufacturer that cuts corners on the electrolyte.

Totally AGREE with you on that. I had a 2009 HP monitor that would blow the same cap every 6 months until I swapped it with a Panasonic FM series. @logan632 is right about the 2007 Samsung too, those cheap Rubycon ZL caps were notorious for failing in that era. The electrolyte just dries out way faster when they cut corners on the sealing process.
