Remember when soldering was the only skill you needed?
Last Thursday I had to fix a vintage amp that was all point-to-point wiring, took me back to 2005 when I started out. Three guys on the bench and we all had our own methods for the same joint, nobody could agree on flux or temperature. Is anyone else finding that younger techs just want to swap boards instead of learning to trace a circuit?

@pigmargaret234 lead-free junk belongs in the trash, not a real bench.

My first boss back in 04 would have us practice soldering on old TV boards for weeks before we touched a real job. He swore by a Weller 35W iron and plain 60/40 rosin core flux, no fancy temperature controls. Total pain when a guy from another shop came in and used lead-free with a hot station, we had to redo half his work cause the joints cracked.
