Serious question, why does everyone insist on replacing the whole board instead of just the bad cap?
Spent $12 on a cap kit for a dead Pioneer amp last month and it fired right up, but three other repair guys told me I was wasting my time chasing components instead of just swapping the board. Has anyone else had luck fixing gear the old fashioned way?

Yeah, "wasting my time chasing components" - that's the exact attitude that's got everything disposable now. I've fixed a receiver, a blender, and even my buddy's gaming monitor with just a soldering iron and some patience. We're so used to throwing stuff out that we forgot how satisfying it is to actually fix something.

Totally agree @jamie794, fixed my old toaster with a paperclip and some wire. So satisfying.
