Showerthought: A customer in Tampa told me I was 'killing the planet' by fixing his old TV.

He said buying a new one was better for the economy, but I argued keeping a 10 year old Sony out of a landfill was the real win. Who do you think had the right idea?

My neighbor just replaced a perfectly good dryer because the store said new ones are 10% more efficient. The math showed it would take 27 years of savings to equal the cost and resources of the new machine. We've been sold this idea that consumption equals progress, but most of the environmental damage is in making the new thing.

@jesse290 maybe the real waste is the energy spent convincing us to buy things we don't need.

Ever try just using a clothesline instead?
