That $15 desoldering pump I bought on a whim actually works better than my Hakko
I was skeptical about the cheap manual pump, but after using it to clear a stubborn through-hole on a vintage stereo board in under 10 seconds, I'm a believer. Anyone else find a budget tool that outperformed their main gear?

Nah, I gotta disagree here. That $15 pump might work for a few pulls, but I've seen those things lose suction real quick once the rubber seal wears down. Hakko's build quality holds up way longer, especially when you're hitting thick ground planes or multi-layer boards. Had a cheap pump fail on me mid-solder on a vintage amp restoration and had to re-clean the whole joint with braid. Good for light use maybe, but for real work the Hakko is still worth the money.

Wait, am I reading that right - you had a cheap pump actually fail mid-pull on a vintage amp restoration? That's brutal, man, I would've lost my mind if I had to re-clean everything with braid after already desoldering half the joint.
