The comment that fixed my reflow technique after 2 years
Tbh I've been doing board reflow for over 2 years and always had intermittent issues with HDMI ports on laptops. Last week a guy in a repair shop in Austin watched me work and said 'you're not preheating the board enough before you hit the chip'. I was only using my hot air station at 60% for like 15 seconds. He told me to crank it to 80% and do 45 seconds of even sweeping first. Tried it on a 2017 MacBook that had been coming back every few weeks, and it's been solid for 7 days now. Has anyone else had a basic tip like that completely change their success rate? I'm wondering if I should start preheating all logic boards, even for simple cap swaps.
