Tried desoldering wick vs a cheap vacuum pump for an hour straight

I was fixing an old receiver from 1987 and had to pull a bunch of through-hole caps. The $12 vacuum desoldering pump kept clogging on me after every 3 joints. Grabbed some good wick from Chemtronics and finished the other 20 caps in like 15 minutes. Anyone else find wick way more reliable for older boards with lots of lead-tin solder?

That sounds like a frustrating hour, sorry you had to deal with that.

Hour of my life I'll never get back. Should've just walked away after 10 minutes but no, I tried to be nice. Funny how people think dumping all their problems on a stranger is normal conversation. At least I got a good story out of it. And a reminder why I don't do random charity work anymore.
