Tried reballing with a hot air station instead of my usual IR setup
Swapped to a cheap 858D for a BGA reball on an old laptop GPU last week, figured it'd take forever. The chip actually seated cleaner and the board didn't warp like it does with my IR rig in Columbus. Learned that low air flow and a slower ramp beat high heat every time for me. Anyone else ditched their fancy gear for the budget stuff and got better results?

The chip "seated cleaner" huh? That's a pretty bold claim for a $40 hot air gun. I've seen the 858D wobble on temperature even when it's brand new, so saying it beat out your IR rig makes me wonder if you just got lucky with that one chip or if you're not being honest with yourself about the setup. Also, board warping usually comes from uneven heat over time, and a hand held unit doesn't exactly scream even heat distribution. Maybe you're just getting better at reballing, not that the gear is better. Did you run the same profile twice to check if it's repeatable, or was this a one hit wonder?
