Walked into a repair shop in Pittsburgh and saw 30 dead motherboards in a bin

They were all water damaged from one office building, and the owner said the cleaning crew sprayed them directly with a hose. Why do people think electronics are waterproof just because the case is, has anyone else seen this at their bench?
