Just finished the last book in that big fantasy series everyone's been talking about for ten years.
I spent all weekend reading the final chapter and felt totally let down by the rushed ending. The main villain, who had been built up for seven books, was defeated in a single paragraph that felt like the author just got tired. Has anyone else felt a huge letdown after investing so much time in a story?

The real problem is when they kill off a side character you loved for no reason. Like in that space opera series, the pilot who survived three books just gets shot off-screen in book four. It makes you wonder if the author even liked their own world anymore, or just wanted to be done with it. All that build-up for nothing.

That off-screen death felt like such a cheap shot.

@cole_patel41 I think you're hitting on something bigger than just books. The same thing happens in movies, TV shows, even at work when someone rushes to finish a big project. We invest so much time looking forward to a payoff, only to get something that feels like a shrug instead of a climax.
