Just found out the original ending of the Dexter finale was way different

I was reading an old interview with the showrunner and apparently Dexter was supposed to die by lethal injection in the last episode, not become a lumberjack lol. Has anyone else heard about alternate endings that got canned? Makes me wonder what other shows changed their finales at the last second.

No way, I totally forgot about that lethal injection ending! That would have been so much better than what we actually got. I remember reading about it a while back and it just made sense for his character to finally face consequences. It reminds me of how Lost was supposed to have a totally different ending too, with the island being way more straightforward and less confusing. The showrunners chickened out on both of them and we ended up with weird non-endings. It's like they got scared of giving the fans a real finish and went with something safe and open instead.

Yeah I used to think the lumberjack ending was kinda fitting in a weird way, but reading about the lethal injection thing changed my mind. That original ending would have actually given the show a real sense of closure instead of that weird open-ended thing we got. Makes you wonder what other shows dropped better endings for worse ones at the last second.

Honestly switching to a clear ending would have hit way harder for me too.
