Question about the ending of 'The Good Place' and that final walk through the door

After my grandma passed last month, I rewatched the finale and finally understood that the point wasn't the goodbye, but the peace in choosing when you're truly done, which makes me wonder if anyone else has had a finale hit differently after a real-life event.

Lost my dad a few years back and rewatched Six Feet Under. That final montage always wrecked me, but after he was gone, it felt less like a sad ending and more like a quiet truth about how everyone's story keeps going, even after you stop seeing it. It changed how I see goodbyes now.

That line about "everyone's story keeps going" is where I get stuck. See, when my grandma passed, I had the opposite feeling. The story felt very over, like a book slammed shut. The montage just made me more aware of the silence after the last page. It's not a quiet truth for me, it's just quiet. Goodbyes became about learning to live with that empty space, not imagining a story I can't see.

Damn, that's real. Sometimes a good story just ends and all you get is the quiet after.
