Spent $80 on that 'must-read' fantasy series finale and I'm still mad about it
I bought the last book in the 'Ember Crown' series after everyone online said the ending was perfect. It was over 700 pages and honestly, the last 100 felt like the author just gave up. The main villain was defeated in like two paragraphs after six books of build-up, and the main couple I'd rooted for just broke up with no real reason. I feel like I wasted a whole weekend and that $80 (for the special hardcover edition, no less). Has anyone else finished a series and felt totally cheated by the ending?

That "defeated in like two paragraphs" thing is the worst. I never buy a series finale on release day anymore. I wait a few weeks and check the reviews from people who actually finished it, not the hype. Saved me from a couple real letdowns.

Watched my friend buy the whole 'Stone Sea' trilogy in hardcover after loving book one. She spent a whole Saturday reading the last book, just to slam it shut and yell at the wall. The big mystery the whole story was built on? The author just never explained it. She said it felt like the last chapter was missing. I still remember the look on her face, like she'd been robbed.
