Found out 'no sugar added' doesn't mean no sugar at all

I bought some apple sauce labeled 'no sugar added' and assumed it was sugar-free. Turns out it still had natural sugars from the apples, which I learned after checking the nutrition facts. Now I always look at the total sugar content, not just the front label. It's a simple thing, but it saved me from a surprise sugar rush.

Last week, a food blog highlighted how 'no sugar added' can be confusing. It means no extra sugar was put in during processing, but the food itself might have natural sugars. This is especially true for fruit products like apple sauce or juice. Many people don't realize that and think they're avoiding sugar fully. Always looking at the total sugar on the nutrition facts is the only way to know for sure. Those front labels are designed to catch your eye, not always to inform you.

Are there clear rules for 'no sugar added' labels, or can companies use them loosely? Fruit products often have lots of natural sugar, which counts toward the total sugar. Without strict rules, these labels might just be marketing tricks.
