PSA: The silent agreement to nod along in boring meetings
Why do we all play along with the charade when half the room is mentally somewhere else?

That "silent agreement" you mentioned is the whole problem. It's just easier to fake paying attention than to be the one who speaks up. What would even happen if someone just said the meeting was pointless?

My boss once called a meeting to cancel meetings, lol.

Thought staying quiet was the only way to not cause trouble. Saw a new guy straight up ask why we were having a status meeting that could've been an email. Everyone froze for a second, but then the team lead just shrugged and ended it. Changed my whole view on those silent agreements. We're all adults, and sometimes calling out the waste of time is the professional thing to do. Still feels awkward, but it beats staring at the clock for an hour.
