My aunt's website 'favor' taught me to set boundaries
I kept getting asked for free graphic design work by family members. It started with my aunt wanting a new logo for her bakery. I used to say yes every time, but it ate into my paid work hours. I felt guilty turning them down. Now, I have a polite script I use to decline gently. I explain that I have client projects with deadlines, but I can offer a family discount. This keeps things professional and avoids hurt feelings. Surprisingly, some relatives now see my work as valuable and have become paying clients.
